Is it starting to happen to you, too? You wander through the stores, filled with new Christmas displays. And you feel overwhelmed with how many decorative things you’d like to go home with when you know how limited your budget is. Or, you have plenty of holiday decorations. But your tastes have changed, while your budget hasn’t. With this plan, you can decorate every room in your house without breaking the bank.
First, walk through each room in your house with a notepad and pencil. Write down the areas you’d like to decorate and think in terms of adding color first. Round tables you can cover with holiday colors, blankets or throws you can replace for the holiday season, tablecloths, towels, etc.
Make a list of what you need in each room, and think minimal, for now, because a little color can go a long way: a throw here, a table cover there, two small pillows, blankets, 2 towels, etc. This month: stock up on those items.
Next, take another tour of the house and choose one or two areas in each room where you could add candles or other decorative knick knacks in holiday designs or colors. Make another list, but save that shopping spree for the beginning of next month.
When the time comes to decorate, you’ll have everything you need.
But if you still don’t have everything you want, catch the sales right after the holidays end. Buy one or two items to put away for next year.
Another idea is to put ornaments on your holiday wish list: you may not have as many as you want this year, but next year, you’ll be all set.
